Synopsis:

Alex Volkov is a man with the face of an angel but the soul of a devil, haunted by a tragic past he can’t escape. His relentless drive for success and vengeance leaves little room for love—until he’s tasked with watching over his best friend’s sister, Ava Chen. Suddenly, something shifts in him: a crack in his cold exterior, a spark of warmth, a fire that threatens to upend his carefully controlled world.

Ava is a free spirit with a past marred by nightmares she can’t fully remember. Despite her brokenness, she sees beauty everywhere, even in the heart of a man as icy as Alex—a man she shouldn’t want. He’s her brother’s best friend, her neighbor, her protector, and possibly her undoing. Their love was never meant to happen, but once it does, it sets off a chain of events that could destroy them both and everything they cherish.

Twisted Love: What I Loved

The Tropes! This book is a treasure trove of my favorite tropes: brother’s best friend, grumpy sunshine, and opposites attract. Each trope was executed so well that I couldn’t put the book down once I started.

Ava’s Character. Ava was the heart of the story for me. She’s sweet, lovable, and has been through so much. Watching her find happiness was incredibly satisfying. Honestly, I’d love to have her as a best friend.

The Steam. The steamy scenes in this book were top-tier, and Alex’s dirty talk added an extra layer of intensity. The chemistry between Alex and Ava was off the charts.

The Friend Group. Ava’s circle of friends was adorable. Knowing who the second book follows makes me eager to dive into it. Each friend was so well-developed that I hope they all get their own stories.

Alex. Despite his darker tendencies—sociopathic and possibly psychopathic—Alex won me over. He reminded me so much of my significant other that I couldn’t help but love him. His unexpected sweetness towards Ava and his willingness to do anything for her, even if it meant burning down the world, made him unforgettable.

The Portrayal of Phobias. Ava’s phobia was portrayed in a way that felt authentic and relatable. While our phobias weren’t the same, I could empathize with her struggle. I especially appreciated how Alex and Ava worked together to address it.

What could have been better:

A Bit Long. My one critique is that the book felt a little longer than necessary at times. Trimming about 30 pages might have tightened the pacing, but it didn’t detract too much from my overall enjoyment.

Alex’s “Change.” If you’ve read the book, you know the moment I’m talking about—the meeting with his uncle. While I understand why Alex made the decision he did, it still annoyed me. I felt for Ava in that moment and wanted to shake Alex for not getting his act together.

Despite these minor issues, I adored Twisted Love and can’t stop thinking about it. The dark yet beautiful romance kept me hooked, and I’m excited to read more from Ana Huang. I’m giving Twisted Love a well-deserved 5 out of 5 stars.

This is my own review of the book and do not intend to hurt or influence other’s view!
