How do you feel the way you do? A story of a boy named Ramesh, and his feelings

Ramesh was the only child of his parents. Young, active, and a very loving kid made his childhood playing with his friends and extremely loving with his extended family as well. They lived in a community as so he had many neighbor friends too.

He was one of the top students in his class. Not just studies, he was active in physical activities too. Ramesh loved skating and long tennis. He is into practice since he was in 3rd class. From being very active he became very shy.

His parents and family thought this was normal and he would be over his shyness. Then occurred hormonal changes. Ramesh started feeling more like a girl than a boy. He was very young to understand the term behind it.

“I don’t know what I feel, I don’t know if I have to tell mom and dad about this, I don’t know if feeling like this was OK.”

It’s been weeks he was suffering inside but finally decided to tell his parents about how he is feeling inside.

“Ma-Pa, I don’t know if this is correct or wrong, but I feel like a girl. I want to dress how other girls are dressing up. I am not liking these shorts and jeans. I want to dress up like you Ma. The way you do your hair, you put bindi.”

Ramesh’s parents were furious! His father was quick to grab him by his collar and hit him. His mom still couldn’t digest what just happened. she managed to stop her husband from further hitting him.

Since that day his father did not leave a chance to curse him. “Tu mera ek hi beta hai aur tu aisa nikla” “Tuje paida karke mei barbad ho gaya.” While his mom was so concerned about the kid that she started to research it and why would it happen.

As she knew more and more about why it would happen, she started accepting the fact that her son is a girl and she was a daughter now. She was very careful with all the changes that Ramesh occurred.

A year later”

Ramesh became Reshmi and her parents were always by her side no matter what! Yes, she went through a lot with society and friends but Reshmi had a family that would understand her for what she is.

This is how she felt the way she did!

This is a simple fiction story about how small things matters for Mental Health. How family comes to rescue us from being further drowning into depression.

In this series, I would write about more such fiction stories in which small elements would help the character into a better state of mind.

Short and poignant story, Sadvika. This has become quite common these days and parents have no choice but to accept it.

Glad that her family was beside her struggle, bcz many parents don’t accept this and leave their child alone to face the obstacles.

If the family is on your side, nothing else matters. They are the strength! Powerful story and the moral of acceptance rather than hushing or deserting the child.

This piece od fiction could very well be somebody’s reality.

Our society seldom understands that gender is not always binary. Unknowingly or knowingly, we are harsh and judgemental towards the LGBTQ+ community. What our society needs is sensitization, to become gender inclusive. And that needs to start from home.
