Discover your Ikigai. Series 6. Why be more Antifragile.

This would be the last in the series for the MyFriendAlexa campaign. Discover your ikigai. Why be more antifragile. Getting up even more strongly if you fall. This is one such topic covered in the book that caught my attention.

As said by Nassim Nicholas Taleb, “Things that gain from disorder.” Here we would discuss few points as to how to apply this with our ikigai and make living out of it.

Create more options:

This can be for creating more than one salary. In today’s world, it becomes more important to have an extra income. Instead of having just one salary making money with your hobbies or anything that you would be interested in.

Take small risks:

It doesn’t work when we don’t take a risk and do something out of the box. But at the same time, we must be careful enough that not to invest completely into this new thing. You must make sure that even if you invest and it doesn’t work out, you must not leave broke.

Eliminate things/people that make you fragile:

We might think of them often but are always scared to move people out of our lives. But question yourself, is there anything that makes you fragile? Be it things or people try to eliminate them from our lives.

To be more antifragile after a fall, we should not be worried about the results or the adversity. Because sometimes, a setback for that particular thing would be a major comeback and sometimes even a stronger one.

If we accept the change and be more antifragile, can we go, we would grow stronger with every downfall we have in life? This attitude would help us stay more focused with our ikigai.

As Taleb mentions in Antifragile, “We need randomness, mess, adventures, uncertainty, self-discovery, hear traumatic episodes, all these things that make life worth living.”

Wabi-sabi and ichi-go ichi-e

A Japanese concept, Wabi-sabi tells us about the beauty of imperfection, incompleteness, and the beauty of the fleeting, changeable nature around us. It teaches us the lesson, that we should look for things that are imperfect and flawed instead of searching for perfection. (Perfection is rare to find while flawed can be a perfect piece too)

Ichi-go Ichi-e translates to “This moment exists only now and won’t come again” I sometimes feel that we ignore this a lot and think about other issues that make us more fragile. The key point for this is to admire that beauty of now! To accept the fact that we don’t have any control over certain things like, weather, time, natural causes that happen around us.

Ichi-go Ichi-e teaches us to enjoy and focus on the present moments that life throws at us and so it is considered important to find our ikigai. Wabi-sabi reminds us to appreciate the beauty of imperfection as a growth opportunity.
