The bridge. Short stories on mental health

The bridge. Short stories on the mental health of a man who is not happy in a career that he was made to choose.

“I am 30, working for software like most of us in our country and was made to choose engineering because apparently, that was a respectable course, it is of course! I tried convincing my dad that I want to be a photographer.”

My father belongs to the previous generation and so he did not see photography as a career at all and was not convinced when I said I want to quit engineering and pursuit photography. The usual drama, a big argument, and my poor mom in between us.

The bridge. Short stories on mental health. The Consequences

I applied to a top photography institute under a famous photographer, and what luck I say, I got selected to a summer school to work under him as a part of the training period. I have had that offer letter with me for over a month now.

This was like my dream, my ambition in life. But it was very difficult to talk to my dad. I finally spoke to him and showed him the offer letter. He was happy I guess but did not show and maintained a neutral response.

The bridge. Short stories on mental health. The Verdict

My dad has finally agreed to the fact that I would be quitting engineering and chasing my dream of being a photographer. I always knew he was not someone who would think of “log kya kahenge” but this decision made him think twice and how I would be able to survive and bare my expenses.

One of the few facts of being from a middle-class family. I am here in London working under one of the renowned photographers.

The bridge. Short stories on mental health.

This is a simple fiction story about how small things matters for Mental Health. How family comes and rescues us from being further drowning in depression.

In this series, I would write about more such fiction stories in which small elements would help the character into a better state of mind.
